PDGFRA
This gene encodes a receptor for the family of platelet-derived growth factors on the cell surface. These growth factors function as mitogens in mesenchymal stem cells. Whether a functional receptor is a homodimer or a heterodimer, made up of both platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha and beta polypeptides, depends on the type of growth factor that is coupled to a receptor monomer. According to studies, this gene is involved in the growth of tumors, the healing of wounds, and the formation of new organs. Idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome, somatic and familial gastrointestinal stromal tumors, and a number of other malignancies have all been linked to mutations in this gene.
