    Applications
The SLC6A4 gene in humans encodes the serotonin transporter, sometimes referred to as the sodium-dependent serotonin transporter and solute carrier family 6 member 4. Serotonin reuptake is the process by which the monoamine transporter protein SERT returns the neurotransmitter serotonin from the synaptic cleft to the presynaptic cell. Serotonin is transported by the SERT protein, which then recycles it in a way that is dependent on sodium to stop its effects. In order to decrease serotonin reuptake, many antidepressant drugs from the SSRI and tricyclic antidepressant families bind to SERT. The customized SLC6A4 stable cell line can be used in antibody discovery and development, potential drug candidate screening and signaling pathway researches.

Fig.1 CTCF modulates expression of the endogenous SLC6A4 in JAr cells.

Q-PCR analysis of the mRNA expression of CTCF and SLC6A4. On 10 5 JAr cells, CTCF siRNA experiments were conducted together with transfection using the CTCF expressing vector. 48 hours after transfection, RNA was extracted, cDNA was made, and Q-PCR was carried out.

    Research Highlights

It has been established that SLC6A4 is a significant indicator of early adversity exposures, and epigenetic processes at this gene seem to be essential for programming.

Stress in both early and recent life affects DNA methylation according to 5-HTTLPR genotype. Certain variations in stress response are also mirrored in gene expression and the cortisol response, which may contribute to an individual's susceptibility or resilience to psychopathology when they encounter stressful life events.
