    Applications
The 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 1A (HTR1A) gene codes for the 5-HT1A receptor. The neocortex, hypothalamus, and substantia gelatinosa of the spinal cord all contain a large number of 5-HT1a receptors and subtypes, which play a role in controlling hypothalamic mechanisms and cerebral cortex integrative processes. 5-HT1a receptors are particularly prevalent in the hippocampus, septum, amygdaloid nuclei, and dorsal Raphé nuclei, which are all implicated in the modulation of emotion. The fact that dorsal Raphé nuclei have 5-HT1a receptors shows that 5-HT can modify serotonergic neurons' activity. A flat body posture, reciprocal forepaw treading, and head weaving are signs that the central 5-HT1a receptors have been activated by an agonist. Traditional 5-HT1a receptor antagonists, as well as the -adrenergic receptor antagonists propranolol or pindolol, block these behavioral activations. This shows a connection between 5-HT1a receptors and β-adrenergic receptors in the central nervous system. By way of protein kinase A, chloride channels are made active when the 5-HT1a receptor is activated. The customized HTR1A stable cell line can be used in antibody discovery and development, potential drug candidate screening and signaling pathway researches.
