    Applications
The GABRA4 gene in humans codes for the protein known as gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor subunit alpha-4. In a study, mice with the wild-type and knockout GABRA4 genes were compared. It was discovered that traits linked to autism spectrum disorder (ASD) were seen when the GABRA4 gene was removed. Compared to wild-type mice, they include reduced social engagement and enhanced spatial cognition. An examination of the hippocampus transcriptome in knockout mice revealed elevated N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor activation. This contributes to consciousness and the learning that leads to those traits. The customized GABRA4 stable cell line can be used in antibody discovery and development, potential drug candidate screening and signaling pathway researches.

What is the role of GABRA4 in melanoma suppression? Aug 22 2023

chat Sherry Smith (Creative Biolabs Scientific Support)

GABRA4 is inhibited by endogenous DOPA, which regulates melanocyte proliferative capacity and susceptibility to malignant transformation, indicating a potential role in melanoma suppression. Aug 22 2023

    Published Data

Fig.1 GABRA4 is essential to control pathologic inflammation during mycobacterial infection.

The lung tissue of Mtb-infected gabra4 CKO mice had significantly greater levels of proinflammatory cytokine and chemokine mRNA expressions (i.e., interleukin (Il)6, CC motif chemokine ligand (Ccl)2, and C-X-C motif ligand (Cxcl)5) than did the lung tissue of gabra4 WT mice.

Different types of epilepsy and neurodevelopmental abnormalities are caused by variations in the genes encoding the γ-aminobutyric acid A (GABAA) receptor. Currently, there is no known connection between GABRA4, which codes for the α4-subunit, and any monogenic disorder.
