    Applications
The F2RL3 gene in humans encodes the protein known as protease-activated receptor 4 (PAR-4), also known as coagulation factor II (thrombin) receptor-like 3. A member of the vast family of 7-transmembrane-region receptors that couple to guanosine-nucleotide-binding proteins is the coagulation factor II (thrombin) receptor-like 3 (F2RL3). Another member of the protease-activated receptor family is F2RL3. The extracellular amino terminus of F2RL3 is cleaved by proteases, which activates the protein. The new amino terminus activates the receptor by acting as a tethered ligand. Thrombin and trypsin both activate F2RL3. The customized F2RL3 stable cell line can be used in antibody discovery and development, potential drug candidate screening and signaling pathway researches.

Fig.1 F2R and F2RL3 myometrial protein expression increased at labor in comparison.

Western blot of the expression of the protein F2RL3 (36 kDa molecular weight) in the human myometrium during pregnancy and labor. The relevant labeling located above each blot indicates the myometrial state.

    Research Highlights

These results suggested that, particularly in later age, F2RL3 methylation is a highly powerful predictor of lung cancer risk and mortality. Further research is necessary to determine the possible effects of F2RL3 methylation on lung cancer prevention, risk stratification, and early detection.

Smoking-related epigenetic DNA hypomethylation at F2RL3 seems to boost PAR4 expression, which could have an impact on platelet reactivity in the future.
