THRB
This gene encodes a triiodothyronine nuclear hormone receptor protein. It has been demonstrated that this thyroid hormone receptor, one of many, mediates the physiologic actions of thyroid hormone. Despite some degree of redundancy, knockout studies in mice reveal that the various receptors may mediate various functions of thyroid hormone. Generalized thyroid hormone resistance (GTHR), a disease characterized by goiter and high levels of circulating thyroid hormone (T3-T4), with normal or slightly elevated thyroid stimulating hormone, is known to be caused by mutations in this gene.
