SLCO1B1
This gene encodes a member of the organic anion transporter family that is exclusive to the liver. The transmembrane receptor encoded by this protein facilitates the sodium-independent uptake of a variety of endogenous substances, such as bilirubin, 17-beta-glucuronosyl estradiol, and leukotriene C4. The removal of pharmacological substances including statins, bromosulfophthalein, and rifampin from the blood and into the hepatocytes is another function of this protein.
