SCN8A
A member of the sodium channel alpha subunit gene family is encoded by this gene. The voltage-gated sodium channel's ion pore region is formed by the encoded protein. The fast membrane depolarization that takes place during the development of the action potential in excitable neurons depends on this protein. Ataxia, pancerebellar atrophy, and cognitive impairment are all linked to mutations in this gene.
