SCN1A
Action potentials in muscle cells and neurons are generated and propagated by voltage-dependent sodium channels, heteromeric complexes that control sodium exchange between intracellular and extracellular regions. Two smaller beta subunits and a big, pore-forming, glycosylated alpha subunit make up each sodium channel. This gene produces a sodium channel alpha subunit with six transmembrane areas in each of its four homologous domains. Epileptic encephalopathy and generalized epilepsy with febrile seizures are both linked to allelic variations of this gene.
