PTGER1
This gene encodes a protein that belongs to the family of G protein-coupled receptors. One of four prostaglandin E2 receptors found is this protein. The activation of this receptor is mediated by G-Q proteins via a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger pathway. Studies using animals with this receptor's knockout revealed that it is involved in controlling blood pressure and mediating pain. Additionally, research on mice revealed that this gene may be responsible for the adrenocorticotropic hormone response to bacterial endotoxin.
