PROK2
This gene encodes a protein that is produced in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), which is thought to be the circadian clock's output component. The encoded protein's secreted form might also act as a chemoattractant for the neural progenitor cells in the olfactory bulb. Based on similarities to snake venom and secretions from frog skin, proteins from other vertebrates that are comparable to this gene product were identified and have since been demonstrated to have a variety of activities. This gene's mutations are linked to Kallmann syndrome.
