PGR
A member of the superfamily of steroid receptors is encoded by this gene. Progesterone, a hormone that is essential for the development and maintenance of pregnancy, has physiological effects that are mediated by the encoded protein. This gene generates a variety of both protein-coding and non-protein-coding transcript variants using two unique promotors and translation start sites in the first exon. Two of the isoforms mediate their own response genes and physiologic effects with little overlap, with the exception of an extra 165 amino acids present in the N-terminus of isoform B.
