OPN5

Opsins belong to the superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors, which binds guanine nucleotides. The eye, brain, testes, and spinal cord all express the opsin gene. This gene is a member of the mammalian opsin seven-exon subfamily, which also contains the peropsin (RRH) and retinal G protein coupled receptor genes (RGR). This opsin gene family member may encode a protein with photoisomerase activity, just like the other seven-exon opsin genes.
