MC2R
One of the five melanocortin receptors associated with G-proteins is encoded by MC2R. Melanocortins are peptides generated from pro-opiomelanocortin, including melanocyte-stimulating hormone and adrenocorticotropic hormone (POMC). Adrenocorticotropic hormone specifically activates the MC2R, but the other four melanocortin receptors are capable of recognizing a wide range of melanocortin ligands. Familial glucocorticoid insufficiency can be caused by MC2R mutations.
