KCNMA1
The potassium channel KCNMA1, which facilitates K(+) export, is triggered by both membrane depolarization and a rise in cytosolic Ca(2+). Additionally, the amount of cytosolic Mg(2+) activates it. The excitatory events that increase the cytosolic Ca(2+) content and/or depolarize the cell membrane are muted by its activation. As a result, it aids in repolarizing the membrane potential. plays a significant part in regulating transmitter release, smooth muscle contraction, cochlear hair cell tuning, and innate immunity, among other systems that are subject to excitability control. The membrane potential in smooth muscles is regulated by its activation by high Ca(2+) levels, which are brought on by ryanodine receptors in the sarcoplasmic reticulum.
