KCNA1
Phylogenetically related to the Drosophila Shaker channel, this gene encodes a voltage-gated delayed potassium channel. The encoded protein has six putative transmembrane segments, S1-S6, and the pore and conserved selectivity filter motif are located in the loop between S5 and S6. The homotetramer is the functional channel. Beta subunits connected to the channel's N-terminus have the ability to alter the channel's inactivation characteristics and expression levels. The protein with a PDZ domain complexed to the channel's C-terminus controls channel targeting.
