ITGAE
Integrins are integral membrane proteins that are heterodimeric and made up of an alpha chain and a beta chain. This gene produces an alpha integrin with an I-domain that is cleaved post-translationally in the extracellular domain to produce heavy and light chains that are disulfide-linked. This protein creates the E-cadherin binding integrin known as the human mucosal lymphocyte-1 antigen when combined with the beta 7 integrin. In addition to playing a part in adhesion, this protein is primarily produced in human intestine intraepithelial lymphocytes (IEL), where it may also operate as an accessory molecule for IEL activation.
