HCN4
A potassium channel that is hyperpolarization-activated and cyclic nucleotide-gated is encoded by this gene. The heart pacemaking mechanism depends on the encoded protein, which has delayed activation and inactivation rates. The responses to sour stimuli may also be mediated by this channel. Sick sinus syndrome 2, commonly known as atrial fibrillation with bradyarrhythmia or familial sinus bradycardia, has been linked to mutations in this gene.
