In response to healthy or pathological increases in beta-oxidation rate, the HCAR3 receptor for 3-OH-octanoid acid mediates a negative feedback control of adipocyte lipolysis to counterbalance prolipolytic impacts. The conditions pellagra and hypoalphalipoproteinemia are linked to HCAR3. Hydroxycarboxylic acid-binding receptors and GPCR downstream signaling are two of its associated pathways.
