HAVCR2
This gene produces a protein that is a member of the TIM family and the immunoglobulin superfamily. Based on the manner in which they secrete cytokines, CD4-positive T helper cells can be classified as either type 1 (Th1) or type 2 (Th2). Th2 cells are involved in the management of external helminthic infections and the promotion of atopic and allergic disorders, whereas Th1 cells are involved in cell-mediated immunity to intracellular pathogens and delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions. This protein, which is a cell surface Th1-specific molecule, controls macrophage activation, blocks Th1-mediated auto- and alloimmune responses, and fosters immunological tolerance.
