GPBAR1

A member of the G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily is encoded by this gene. This enzyme serves as a bile acid receptor on the cell surface. Bile acid treatment causes the internalization of the receptor, generation of intracellular cAMP, and activation of a MAP kinase signaling pathway in cells that express this GPCR. The receptor is thought to play a role in how bile acids control energy homeostasis and decrease macrophage activity. Sclerosing cholangitis and intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy are two conditions linked to GPBAR1. ADORA2B-mediated anti-inflammatory cytokine production and Class A/1 are two of its associated mechanisms (Rhodopsin-like receptors). G protein-coupled receptor activity and G protein-coupled bile acid receptor activity are two Gene Ontology (GO) annotations connected to this gene.
