GNRH1
The preproprotein that this gene encodes undergoes proteolytic processing to become a peptide that belongs to the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) family of peptides. Multiple transcript variants are produced by alternative splicing, at least one of which is secreted before being cleaved to produce gonadoliberin-1 and GnRH-associated peptide 1. The hormones luteinizing and follicle stimulating hormones, which are critical for reproduction, are released when gonadoliberin-1 is present. This gene's mutations are linked to hypogonadotropic hypogonadism.
