This gene produces a member of the seven transmembrane G protein-coupled cell surface receptor family's protease-activated receptor (PAR) subfamily. The protease-activated receptor family member PAR4 is cleaved and activated by thrombin with the assistance of the encoded protein. The encoded protein is crucial for thrombosis and hemostasis.
