ESR1
The estrogen receptor and ligand-activated transcription factor are both encoded by this gene. An N-terminal ligand-independent transactivation domain, a central DNA binding domain, a hinge domain, and a C-terminal ligand-dependent transactivation domain are all present in the canonical protein. The protein settles in the nucleus, where it can unite with estrogen receptor 2 to create either a homodimer or a heterodimer. This gene produces a protein that is expressed in a variety of non-reproductive organs and regulates the transcription of numerous estrogen-inducible genes involved in growth, metabolism, sexual development, gestation, and other reproductive processes. This gene's receptor is essential for the development of breast cancer, endometrial cancer, and osteoporosis.
