CYSLTR1
A member of the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family is encoded by this gene. The encoded protein functions as a receptor for cysteinyl leukotrienes and is necessary for the activation of a second messenger system involving phosphatidylinositol and calcium, which mediates bronchoconstriction. When the encoded receptor is activated, bronchial smooth muscle cells contract and multiply, eosinophils migrate, and the mucus layer in the lung is harmed. Asthma is linked to the upregulation of this gene, and cancer may be linked to the dysregulation of this gene.
