CXCR2
This gene encodes a protein that belongs to the family of G-protein-coupled receptors. This protein serves as the interleukin 8 receptor (IL8). It has a strong affinity for IL8 and transmits the signal using a second messenger pathway that is triggered by G proteins. This receptor has been demonstrated to be a key element needed for serum-dependent melanoma cell growth and binds to the protein chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 1 (CXCL1/MGSA), which has been found to have melanoma growth promoting action. The migration of neutrophils to inflammatory areas is mediated by this receptor. It is discovered that this receptor mediates the angiogenic effects of IL8 in intestinal microvascular endothelial cells. Studies using animals with this receptor's knockout revealed that this receptor regulates the location of oligodendrocyte progenitors by halting their migration.
