CASP6
A member of the cysteine-aspartic acid protease (caspase) family of enzymes is encoded by this gene. The execution phase of cell apoptosis depends heavily on the sequential activation of caspases. Caspases are inactive proenzymes that go through proteolytic processing to produce two subunits, large and small, which dimerize to form the active enzyme. This protein is hypothesized to work as a downstream enzyme in the caspase activation cascade and is broken down by caspases 7, 8, and 10.
