CACNA1H
A protein of the voltage-dependent calcium channel complex, the T-type member of the alpha-1 subunit family, is encoded by this gene. Calcium channels, which are made up of a complex of alpha-1, alpha-2/delta, beta, and gamma subunits in a 1:1:1:1 ratio, mediate the entrance of calcium ions into the cell upon membrane polarization. The channel via which ions enter the cell is formed by the alpha-1 subunit, which comprises 24 transmembrane segments. Each protein in the complex has distinct isoforms that are either produced by alternative splicing of transcripts or by different genes. According to studies, this gene's specific mutations may cause absence epilepsy in children.
