CACNA1C
An alpha-1 subunit of a voltage-dependent calcium channel is encoded by this gene. Upon membrane polarization, calcium ions enter the cell through calcium channels. The pore via which ions enter the cell is formed by the 24 transmembrane segments that make up the alpha-1 subunit. Alpha-1, alpha-2/delta, beta, and gamma subunits make up the calcium channel complex in a 1:1:1:1 ratio. Each of these proteins has different isoforms that are either encoded by distinct genes or the product of alternative transcript splicing. This gene produces a protein that binds to and inhibits dihydropyridine.
