CACNA1A
Voltage-dependent calcium channels are involved in a number of calcium-dependent processes, such as muscle contraction, hormone or neurotransmitter release, and gene expression. They mediate the entry of calcium ions into excitable cells. Multisubunit complexes called calcium channels are made up of alpha-1, beta, alpha-2/delta, and gamma subunits. The pore-forming alpha-1 subunit controls channel activity, whereas the other subunits serve as auxiliary regulators of this activity. The alpha-1A subunit, which is mostly expressed in neural tissue, is encoded by this gene.
