BDKRB2
The bradykinin receptor is encoded by this gene. The 9 aa bradykinin peptide causes a variety of reactions, such as vasodilation, edema, smooth muscle spasm, and activation of pain fibers. Bradykinin binds to its kinin receptors, B1 and B2, and is released when pathophysiologic circumstances like trauma and inflammation activate it. The phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger pathway is stimulated by the association of the B2 receptor with G proteins. Hereditary angioedema and brain edema are two conditions linked to BDKRB2. Its associated pathways include Class A/1 and GPCR downstream signaling (Rhodopsin-like receptors). This gene has annotations for G protein-coupled receptor function and protease binding in the Gene Ontology (GO) database.
