ASIC2
The degenerin/epithelial sodium channel (DEG/ENaC) superfamily is represented by the protein that this gene encodes. Amiloride-sensitive sodium channels belonging to this family have extracellular N and C termini, two hydrophobic transmembrane sections, and a large extracellular loop with several cysteine residues that are spaced evenly apart. This gene's product might be involved in neurotransmission. Additionally, it has been noted that this component forms a heteromeric connection with acid-sensing (proton-gated) ion channel 3 to form proton-gated channels that are gadolinium-sensitive.
