SSTR3
A member of the family of somatostatin receptor proteins is encoded by this gene. Somatostatins are peptide hormones that control a wide range of cellular processes, including neurotransmission, cell division, and endocrine signaling. They also prevent the release of numerous hormones and other secretory proteins. A family of G-protein coupled somatostatin receptors that are expressed in different tissues mediate the biological effects of somatostatins. Together with other members of the superfamily, including G-protein coupled receptors, and receptor tyrosine kinases, somatostatin receptors can form homodimers and heterodimers. This protein and adenylyl cyclase work together in a functional way.
