SLC22A2
Many endogenous tiny organic cations as well as a variety of medications and environmental contaminants must be eliminated, and this is made possible by polyspecific organic cation transporters found in the liver, kidney, intestine, and other organs. On chromosome 6, a cluster of three related cation transporter genes, including this one, can be found. The encoded protein is a plasma integral membrane protein with twelve putative transmembrane domains. It is mostly present in the kidney, where it might be involved in the initial stages of cation reabsorption.
