MC3R
Other tissues than the adrenal cortex and melanocytes express the G-protein-coupled receptor for melanocyte-stimulating hormone and adrenocorticotropic hormone that is encoded by this gene. This gene is mapped to the same area as the benign neonatal epilepsy locus. A role for this gene's product in the control of energy balance is suggested by the fact that mice lacking this gene had increased fat mass despite eating less food. Human obesity susceptibility is linked to mutations in this gene.
