FFAR1

This gene encodes a G protein-coupled receptor from the GP40 family, which is grouped together on chromosome 19. The protein that has been encoded is a receptor for medium- and long-chain free fatty acids and it may have a role in the metabolic control of insulin secretion. Medium and long chain saturated and unsaturated fatty acid receptor that functions as a key component of glucose control. Fatty acid binding enhances the release of glucagon-like peptide 1 and insulin in response to glucose (GLP-1). As receptor signaling promotes pathways that prevent osteoclast development, it may also be important for bone homeostasis.
