CXCR4
A CXC chemokine receptor specific for stromal cell-derived factor-1 is encoded by this gene. The protein is found on the cell surface and has seven transmembrane areas. In addition to being highly expressed in breast cancer cells, it collaborates with the CD4 protein to facilitate HIV entrance into cells. WHIM (warts, hypogammaglobulinemia, infections, and myelokathexis) syndrome has been linked to mutations in this gene. By boosting MAPK1/MAPK3 activation and intracellular calcium ion levels, CXCR3 transmits a signal. a part of the AKT signaling chain. plays a part in controlling cell migration, for instance during the healing of wounds. acts as a ubiquitin receptor, increasing intracellular calcium ions and decreasing cellular cAMP levels.
