CD274
T cells, B cells, and different types of tumor cells, as well as hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cells, express the immune inhibitory receptor ligand that is encoded by this gene. The encoded protein is a type I transmembrane protein with domains that resemble immunoglobulin V and C. This ligand's interaction with its receptor limits the generation of cytokines and T-cell activation. This connection is crucial for preventing autoimmunity by maintaining the immune system's homeostasis during infection or inflammation of normal tissue. Through the inactivation of cytotoxic T-cells, this relationship allows tumor cells to evade the immune system in tumor microenvironments. This gene's expression in tumor cells is thought to be prognostic in a variety of human cancers, including renal cell carcinoma and colon cancer.
