BCAR1
The protein that this gene produces belongs to the family of scaffold proteins known as Crk-associated substrate (CAS), which is distinguished by the presence of several protein-protein interaction domains and numerous serine and tyrosine phosphorylation sites. The encoded protein has a bipartite Src-binding domain that can bind both SH2 and SH3 domains, a proline-rich domain, a substrate domain with 15 repeats of the YxxP consensus phosphorylation motif, a serine-rich region, and a Src homology 3 (SH3) domain. Cell motility, apoptosis, and cell cycle regulation are just a few of the several biological pathways in which this adaptor protein participates. This gene's dysregulation can affect many distinct pathways, including endothelium migration, cancer, vascular smooth muscle cells, liver and kidney function, and cardiac development.
