ACE2
The angiotensin-converting enzyme family of dipeptidyl carboxydipeptidases includes the protein that gene codes for, and it bears significant similarities to the human angiotensin 1 converting enzyme. The cleavage of angiotensin I into angiotensin 1-9 and angiotensin II into the vasodilator angiotensin 1-7 is catalyzed by this released protein. Since ACE2 is known to express differently in different human organs and types of cells, it is possible that it regulates reproductive, cardiovascular, and renal function. A functional receptor for the spike glycoprotein of the human severe acute respiratory syndrome coronaviruses SARS-CoV and SARS-CoV-2, as well as the human coronavirus HCoV-NL63, is also present in the encoded protein.
