Transferrin is a glycoprotein that binds up to two Fe(III) atoms for transport to vertebrate cells via receptor-mediated endocytosis. It has homologous iron-binding domains at its N- and C-termini. For microscopic studies of the endosomal route and/or transferrin uptake experiments, labeled human transferrin is employed.
